Asbestos

Asbestos related disease is a very significant occupational health problem. Approximately 3000 people per year are thought to die each year from such disease. The latency period from first exposure to contracting an asbestos related disease can be as long as 50 years. The fibrous nature of asbestos, together with its heat resistant properties made it an ideal material for insulation, noise attention and cloth production.

Asbestos analysis is subcontracted to a UKAS accredited sister company within the Concept Life Sciences group.

Bulk samples are examined using dispersion staining polarised light microscopy (PLM) in accordance with MDHS 77.

Soil samples are examined in a 3 staged UKAS accredited procedure. These are explained in the following Method Statement
