Fosetyl Aluminium (Fosetyl-Al) has been approved for use for many years and is authorised in almost all EU member states as a fungicide used for treatment against certain fungi including Phytophthora and Pythium.

Under current Commission Regulation (EU) 396/2005 Fosetyl-Al is defined as follows:

“Sum Fosetyl and Phosphorous Acid and their salts, expressed as Fosetyl”.

Potential Maximum Residue Limit (MRL) exceedances reported to the EU Committee in 2014 has led to recent reviews in MRL’s for Fosetyl-AL. From 1st January 2016 under commission regulation (EU) 75/2016 MRL’s have been set to 2mg/kg for a range of produce including;

  • Stone Fruits
  • Papaya
  • Berries (except strawberries)
  • Pomegranate
  • Figs
  • Garlic
  • Persimmon
  • Beans and Peas (with and without pods)
  • Passion fruit
  • Asparagus

The review also included a MRL of 75 mg/kg Fosetyl-AL for some tree nuts including almonds, cashew nuts, hazelnuts, macadamias, pistachios, and walnuts, under a separate regulation in place until 2019.

Following comments from industry bodies, regulation 1003/2016 was issued on the 14th July 2016 which included at MRL of 100mg/kg for Raspberries and Blackberries.
