Active Laboratory

SAL’s experience and capacity to provide environmental analysis of active samples makes us an ideal partner. Originally established in Warrington in 2003, a purpose-built facility was incorporated into the Manchester Laboratory in 2007 offering a wide scope of testing from standard inorganic analysis to the more specialist persistent organics such as:

  • Metals
  • General Inorganics
  • TPH
  • Volatiles
  • PAHs
  • Pesticides
  • PCBs
  • SVOCs
  • Dioxins
  • WAC analysis
  • Tank Testing

SAL are able to provide analysis on the same wide variety of matrices analysed in the general laboratory, ranging from standard soil and water analysis to sludge, resin, concrete and bulk products, ensuring we can accommodate the requirements of the nuclear industry.

Our staff are fully conversant with the special procedures required when analysing samples of this type. The Active Laboratory has an independent sample receipt, preparation area and analysis laboratory giving controlled access with all appropriate monitoring procedures for both samples and staff. Acceptable activity limits for a single sample are as follows:

  • U-alpha 100kBq
  • Other alpha 10kBq
  • Beta/gamma 300kBq
  • C-14/H3 3000kBq
